A search for Indiana pro-democracy groups completed in late 2021 has identified more than 150 groups working to build democracy in Indiana. Many of these groups are focusing on, or preparing to focus on, voter registration and voter turnout efforts for the coming election. Many also play important roles in the progressive pro-democracy political ecosystem in Indiana, including focusing on the needs of underrepresented and marginalized groups, undertaking general public education, carrying out legislative pressure campaigns, initiating litigation, and much more.
While several pages linked below are to Indiana chapters of large national organizations, these chapters are mostly grassroots in nature because what they actually do, how much they actually do, and how they pay for it are left largely up to local volunteers to determine. The last two linked pages below provide news and information about Indiana politics and details on voting in Indiana. All of this presents a wealth of opportunities for individuals to pitch in, to help promote democracy, and to elect Democrats.
The more than 150 groups listed on the Indiana pages linked below do many different things, but they share in common a commitment to promoting civic engagement and voter participation. With their roots in local communities, these groups can be difference-makers. In this wealth of democratic ferment, everyone can find a group to help, a donation that feels right, or a volunteering role into which they can comfortably fit. Democracy means many things, but it surely means that we are all counting on each other to pitch in and do our share.
