Wisconsin stands to benefit enormously from its rich political culture and from its long history of voter activism. A survey of that terrain in late 2021 has identified more than 150 Wisconsin volunteer grassroots organizations focusing on, or preparing to focus on, voter registration and voter turnout efforts for the 2022 election. This presents a wealth of opportunities to promote democracy and help elect Democrats.
After years of abuse by Governor Scott Walker and the Republicans in the Legislature, Wisconsin became notorious, the poster child of voter suppression. Grassroots activists are today fighting voter suppression and for the right to vote without facing barriers created intentionally to make voting more difficult.
The more than 150 organizations listed below do many different things, but they share a commitment to promoting civic engagement and voter participation. With their roots in local communities, these groups can be difference-makers. Many are now preparing to focus on voter registration and voter turnout efforts for the 2022 election. In this wealth of democratic ferment, everyone can find a group to help, a donation that feels right, or a volunteering role into which that can comfortably fit. Please do as much as you can.
